  • Overview

    Element has an opportunity for a Quality Manager. You will be responsible for the generation, implemention and adherence to the laboratory quality system in accordance with company, customer, and third party requirements. The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring production and reporting of reliable data, and therefore has authority and organizational freedom to stop work in progress, stop test report shipments, change test and preparation procedures, update test and preparation methods, audit department performance, and institute corrective actions.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide leadership and a clear understanding of quality standards in developing and maintaining a quality system that meets the requirement of ISO 17025, Nadcap, Nuclear Industry, and the Element location Quality I Manual
    • Implement and maintain the laboratory quality system, reporting on the performance of the quality system for review and as a basis for improvement of the system
    • Act as liaison with customers, vendors, and staff to answer inquiries, concerns, and complaints
    • In conjunction with staff, write, review and/or approve test procedures, training documents, position responsibilities, and calibration and maintenance of equipment in accordance with industry standards, customer requirements, and Element Corporate SPs
    • Administer all functions of the quality system, including but not limited to, audits, calibrations, corrective actions, the selection of test equipment, employee qualification, complaints, and document control
    • Communicate audit results, quality metrics, quality system deficiencies, or concerns regarding the quality of data to the location management and Element Corporate.
    • Prepare and respond to customer and accreditation bodies including coordination and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
    • Partner with laboratory supervision to meet customers’ expectations while maintaining the necessary independence to assure data integrity
    • Maintain updated copies of applicable matrices, tables, and associated quality documentation, including Nadcap checklists, ISO 17025 checklists, customer checklists and other like documents
    • Perform method audits of all procedures for testing, preparation,and calibration according to the frequency established, as well as, train and qualify others in the organization to assist with method audits
    • Motivate and maintain a positive attitude toward the quality system by recognizing and rewarding quality performance
    • In conjunction with department managers, ensure proper training and qualification occurs, at the frequency required by industry standards, internal procedures, customer requirements, and Element Corporate SPs
    • Initiate, lead and support process improvement activities across the lab

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
    • Five years related experience and intimate knowledge of ISO quality systems
    • Minimum of 5 years experience in the development and implementation of ISO 17025 accredited quality systems at a management level; or extensive experience functioning under ISO 17025 or ISO 9001 accredited systems in a technical or quality-related capacity
    • Strong technical background involving metals testing evaluation in a captive or commercial laboratory environment
    • Recognition by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as one or more of the following professional attainments would be preferred in this job:
      • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
      • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
      • Certified Quality Manager (CQM)
