Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Test Engineer to join our lab in Hitchin to work on energy and aerospace projects to support Element’s activities in these sectors. The work will primarily involve mechanical testing and evaluation of composite materials and structures, as well as thermoplastics and structural adhesives.
This is a varied role, working with other Element scientists, engineers and technicians as well as clients in many industries worldwide.
There may be some overseas travel. You are required to ensure your passport remains valid at all times.
This will interest someone with a passion for non-metallic materials technology and engineering and be particularly suitable for a candidate with composites testing experience.
Set up and run universal test machines, as well as servo-hydraulic machines, to perform mechanical tests on composite materials.
Process and analyse raw test data using Microsoft Excel and Origin.
Manage test projects and liaise with clients regarding project status, material performance, etc.
Write technical reports, adding value for clients.
Write/contribute to technical proposals for prospective clients.
Present technical information and findings to clients.
Contribute to the design of test fixtures for mechanical tests on coupons and structures.
Working on a number of projects simultaneously: the work will involve managing small and medium sized projects, planning and coordinating project work, conducting static and dynamic mechanical tests, data reduction and interpretation of results, and technical reporting.
Basic project management with budgetary controls and work planning.
