Overview

A Dynamics Test Technician is a specialized role focused on the physical stressors a product undergoes during its lifecycle. In industries like aerospace, automotive, and defense, "dynamics" refers specifically to vibration, shock, and structural integrity. As a senior-level technician, you aren't just running a machine; you are the bridge between engineering theory and physical reality, often leading a team and ensuring complex test setups are executed flawlessly.
 

Salary: $20- $25/hr DOE 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Test Setup & Execution: Assist in mounting test articles to electrodynamic shakers or shock machines using specialized fixtures and fasteners.

  • Instrumentation: Install and calibrate sensors, including accelerometers, strain gauges, and thermocouples. *

  • Equipment Operation: Learn to operate vibration controllers (Vibration Research), power amplifiers, and data acquisition systems (DAQ) to run specified test profiles (Sine, Random, Shock).

  • Data Collection: Monitor tests in progress to ensure parameters remain within specified tolerances and record raw data for engineering review.

  • Maintenance & Calibration: Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and ensure all tools are within their calibration cycles.

  • Documentation: Assist in drafting technical logs and "Notice of Deviation" (NOD) reports if a test fails to meet specified criteria or if equipment malfunctions.

 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong hands-on skills with hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical assembly.
  • Basic Electronics: Understanding of basic electrical circuits, cabling, and signal types.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and the ability to learn proprietary test software.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to follow complex, written procedures (such as MIL-STD or ASTM standards) with high precision.

Physical Requirements & Environment:

  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in awkward positions to secure test articles.
  • Environment: Exposure to high noise levels (hearing protection provided), mechanical hazards, and occasionally extreme temperature environments during combined environment testing.
     

Entry level – 1 to 2 years’ experience in manufacturing, machinery, or testing background.
