Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Testing Technician to join our rapidly expanding team in Warren, MI. Materials Test Technician conducts materials testing on components / representative material to evaluate properties such as tensile strength, tensile elongation, compression, wear, abrasion, scratch, mar, impact, chemical resistance, fogging, flammability, odor, color, gloss, haze, adhesion, etc. This role supports product development, quality assurance, and certification in industries like aerospace, automotive and manufacturing

 

Our Warren 11 Mile facility provides complete full-vehicle, subsystem, and component testing for automotive, transportation, aerospace, defense, commercial, and industrial customers. The laboratory’s capabilities span climatic and environmental simulation, fuels and fluids testing, polymer and composite analysis, materials testing, corrosion, vibration, hydraulic and dynamics testing, and advanced hybrid and electric vehicle battery testing. 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical tests including tensile, compression, shear, impact, and fatigue testing
  • Paint testing such as adhesions, environmental exposures, wear, abrasion, scratch, mar, color, gloss and chemical resistance
  • Operate testing equipment such as Instron Universal Testing Machine
  • Prepare material specimens according to industry standards
  • Record and analyze test data
  • Ensure compliance with standards such as ASTM International and ISO
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment
  • Document results in detailed reports and maintain test records
  • Follow safety and quality control procedures

Skills / Qualifications

  • 1 – 2 years of Materials Testing experience.
  • Understanding of materials (metals, polymers, composites)
  • Familiarity with testing methods and lab procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, data acquisition systems)
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Materials Testing
  • Knowledge of paint systems or plastics
  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, automotive)
