Element has an opportunity for a Lead Metallurgical Engineer. This role will provide technical assistance within the metallurgical laboratory, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. Primary responsibilities will include project management and to provide consultation services in the field of aerospace metallurgy. The ideal candidate will be a subject-matter expert in metallurgy, material testing, and aerospace alloys.
Salary: $85k-120k/yr DOE
• Establish and maintain client contact for the purposes of market/account development, understanding customers’ needs, building personal relationships, ensuring satisfaction, and maintaining a professional consulting image.
• Review technical documents and to construct a suitable scope of work. Prepare written proposals, schedule tests, analyze test results and prepare high-quality reports.
• Supervise and direct activities of metallurgical laboratory personnel
• Perform root cause failure analysis investigations on metallic components from the aviation/ aerospace, space, transportation, consumer products / industrials and energy industries
• Metallurgical examinations / optical microscopy
• Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) / Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
• Safely operate and maintain lab equipment in compliance with company requirements.
Estimate the work effort required and to help in the commercial breakdown of the work
•Experience and recognized qualification in Metallurgy. Bachelors degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Minimum of 7-12 years experience in metallurgical engineering with a focus on materials testing (physical metallurgy).
•Experience in conducting and reporting of root cause failure analysis
•Experience in working with SEM / EDS (Scanning Electron Microscopy / Energy Dispersive analysis)
•Experience working in an ISO 17025 (Nadcap preferred) laboratory environment
•Strong communication / presentation skills
•The ability to assess and respond to client requirements in an appropriate manner prioritizing customer service and professional partnerships
•Ability to operate and function within a team, drawing on other expertise where required
•Flexibility and adaptability to different workloads and roles within the company
