Overview

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for destructive material testing. In this role, you will perform mechanical tests on materials and components to evaluate their strength, durability, and failure points. You’ll work closely with engineers, production staff, and other technicians to ensure equipment runs efficiently and safely.

 

Salary: $22- $26/hour (Depending on Experience)

 

Responsibilities

  • Review customer specification and work closely with the project manager to adhere to requirements
  • Set up and operate mechanical testing equipment including tensile testers, impact testers, compression machines, and hardness testers.
  • Application of instrumentation and the setting up of complex data capture equipment
  • Monitor tests in progress and ensure proper data collection.
  • Perform a variety of destructive tests (e.g., tensile, fatigue, bend, shear, and fracture tests) according to standard methods (ASTM, ISO, etc.).
  • Record detailed test results and reviewing the data to understand that the test performed accurately
  • Support the machine shop at times to prepare specimens for testing, including cutting, grinding, machining, and polishing.

Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in mechanical technology, materials testing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in mechanical or materials testing (destructive testing preferred).
  • Knowledge of standard mechanical testing methods and protocols (ASTM, ISO) preferred.
  • Previous experience in an appropriate Engineering environment is a distinct advantage
  • Experience of working within a Mechanical testing environment is advantageous
  • An understanding of a recognized Quality Management Systems such as ISO 17025 is beneficial
  • Self-motivated Technician with the ability to multitask, organize and work under the pressure of a busy commercial mechanical test laboratory
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a small team in a lab environment.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Lab environment – may have limited exposure to heat, dust, and machinery.
  • Use of company provided PPE required (safety glasses)
  • Standing, lifting, and handling materials for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., more frequently lifting 10 to 15 lbs.
