Overview

Element is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist in Midland, Michigan to lead testing projects and provide expert analytical support for a wide range of consumer products, including topicals, aerosols, healthcare items, and OTC products. In this role, you will utilize a variety of advanced analytical instrumentation to support lot release, R&D initiatives, and contamination investigations, while directly interfacing with customers to deliver accurate, actionable results. 

 

Our Midland laboratory is part of Element’s global network of over 9,000 experts, offering comprehensive testing solutions across consumer products, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. The facility is dedicated to helping clients ensure product safety and compliance, providing analytical and chemical characterization services in a GLP/cGMP‑style environment. Joining the Midland team means contributing to rigorous, high‑quality testing that supports innovation and safeguards consumer trust.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes samples and develops methods using analytical instruments, including DSC, TGA, rheometer, UV-Vis, FTIR, ICP-MS, LC, GC, and automated titration.
  • Executes complex analytical projects, including testing, troubleshooting, and equipment support.
  • Delivers timely reports and data analyses to meet client needs.
  • Follows all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Mentors and trains new employees in company practices and SOPs.
  • Generates client reports and laboratory documentation in accordance with SOPs.
  • Complies with SOPs and initiates updates when necessary.
  • Communicates with clients and colleagues, including leading technical discussions.
  • Implements new equipment, processes, and methods, including qualification and validation activities.
  • Maintains lab instruments and coordinates with external vendors.
  • Supports other departmental activities as requested to meet Element Materials Technology’s annual targets and budget.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Have a bachelors or masters degree and 5+ years experience or Ph.D. with 2+ years experience in a similar role.
  • Have the ability to work in teams under pressure
  • Good English communication skills: reading, writing, speaking.
  • Good math skills
  • Familiarity with polymers preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of safe operation of testing equipment and operating in an independent / chemistry / consultant laboratory
