Overview

 

The purpose of the Facilities Technician helps keep our facilities running and maintained. This position reports to the Facility Manager and is responsible for mechanical repairs of environmental chambers, connecting refrigeration lines, cooling water, or electrical power sources, handling and recovering hazardous refrigerant substances, and checking systems and equipment for leaks.

 

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair various HVAC systems, cooling towers, cascade refrigeration systems for environmental chambers in a testing environment.
• Use blueprints or electrical schematics to make repairs, troubleshoot systems and perform maintenance on systems that have been modified or do not have electrical schematics.
• Effectively manage assigned work orders and communicate test details, concerns, and timing with multiple persons.
• Oversee HVAC requirements for site.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment and controls.
• Perform general plumbing and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Install new HVAC and mechanical systems as needed.
• Monitor and maintain HVAC inventory and supplies.
• Completes maintenance projects during off shifts or shutdown periods when needed.
• Responsible for supporting facility status/inspections and alerting Leadership of unusual occurrences and/or damages that have taken place or that have the potential to occur.
• Troubleshooting to include electrical, structural, plumbing and HVAC issues.
• Performs weekly facility maintenance and assist in monthly safety inspection.
• Responds to multiple maintenance requests from various departments.
• Develop, schedule, and complete items included in the “Total Productive Maintenance” Program (TPM).
• Coordinates and executes special projects as directed by the Management such as Capex implementations, SHE improvements and special events.
• Completes routine planned and unplanned maintenance projects when needed.
• Troubleshooting to include electrical, structural, plumbing and HVAC issues, and coordinating with outside vendors when required.
• Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

Skills / Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in similar field (i.e., HVAC systems and general plumbing, mechanical and electrical maintenance system experience) required
  • Possess ability to use, or learn to use, various process controllers (e.g., environmental chamber controllers)
  • Must have great attitude and the willingness to show up ready to work
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC cascade systems for environmental chambers
  • EPA certification Universal; EPA 608/609 preferred
  • Ability to maintain professional candor at all times and remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Ambition to be productive individually and as part of a team
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs
  • Ability to interface with employees to determine their needs and provide a satisfactory outcome
