Overview

Element are looking to recruiut a Mechanical Engineer to provide Material Testing Engineer support to the Hitchin site to ensure the prompt completion of business deliverables. This role will be based in the Mechanical Testing Department alongside a diverse team of technical and scientific staff all geared toward delivering operational and financial targets to a high standard.

Responsibilities

  • ·  Project Management
  •    Manage ustomer projects from initiation to completion
  •    Liase with internal team members and external clients to define project requirements and review project proposals in a       timely manner
  •    Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to agreed quality standards
  • ·  Test Preparation and Execution
  •    Set up and verify the readiness of mechanical testing equipment according to established procedures
  •    Conduct material tests following industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and internal protocols
  •    Record, analyze and report test data accurately, ensuring traceability and repeatability
  • ·  Technical Support and Calibration
  •    Work closely with engineers and material scientists to interpret results and provide insights
  •    Support development and improvement of department testing methods and procedures
  •    Assist in troubleshooting equipment and investigating non-conformance
  • ·  Documentation and Reporting
  •    Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing test results and findings
  •    Maintain accurate records of test set ups, conditions and outcomes.
  •    Contribute to documentation for quality assurance and compliance audits
  • ·  Health, Safety and Quality
  •    Follow SOPs, and safety protocols to contribute to a safe working environment
  •    Ensure testing activities comply with relevant quality standards and regulations.
  •    Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to lab efficiency and safe ways of working.
  •    Create and provide technical input to SOPs and risk assessments
  •    Provide technical input during SHE and Quality investigations.
  •    Operate within local SHE and Quality management systems.
  •    Ability to design fixtures and fittings for laboratory testing instrumentation.
  •    Assist with training and support documentation for equipment and protocols
  • .  Play a key role in our staff training program and competence reviews.
  •    Prepare material or conduct staff training as appropriate.

Skills / Qualifications

   

  • Experience of working to published standards for polymers, composites and rubber material
  • An understanding of various instrumentation types for measuring: tension, torsion, compression, flex, shear and creep.
  • Demonstratable experience in a related field
  • Experience using CAD software to produce technical drawings for fixtures and fittings.
  • Ability to apply an array of engineering and testing techniques in a rational and practical style to help examine issues and build solutions
  • Any related skills in programming and control applications would be an advantage
