The Mechanical Test Technician is responsible for preparing, conducting, and documenting mechanical tests on materials, components, and assemblies to verify performance and compliance with customer work specifications. This role supports product development, quality assurance, and research by providing accurate test data and analysis.
Salary: $24- $28/hour (Depending on Experience)
Set up, calibrate, and operate a variety of mechanical test equipment (tensile, compression, fatigue, impact, hardness, vibration).
Prepare test samples and fixtures according to engineering drawings and test standards.
Perform destructive testing in accordance with procedures and safety requirements.
Collect, analyze, and record test results in laboratory information systems and prepare test reports.
Identify and troubleshoot anomalies during testing and communicate findings to engineering or quality teams.
Maintain testing equipment, perform routine checks, and coordinate calibration as needed.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to test methods and equipment.
Ensure compliance with company, industry, and safety standards (ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc.).
High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
Basic understanding of mechanical principles (force, stress, strain, materials behavior).
Hands-on experience with hand tools, shop equipment, or lab work (school, internship, or work experience).
Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety protocols.
Comfortable using computers for data entry and basic software (Excel, Word).
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Work Environment:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Standing and moving between workstations for extended periods.
Laboratory and test facility setting.
Standard work schedule with occasional overtime depending on project needs.
On-the-job training and mentorship provided.
