Overview

The NDT UT Trainee is responsible for learning and assisting in the performance of ultrasonic testing (UT) inspections under the direct supervision of a certified Level II or III technician. This entry-level position is designed to provide practical, hands-on training while ensuring compliance with industry standards, company procedures, and safety requirements.


$18-21/hour + $1.00 Shift Differential if on 2nd shift, $2.00 Shift Differential on 3rd Shift 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist certified technicians in setting up, calibrating, and performing ultrasonic inspections.

  • Prepare parts, materials, and equipment for inspection.

  • Observe and record test results under supervision.

  • Learn to interpret reference standards, codes, and specifications related to ultrasonic testing.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of inspection activities.

  • Follow all safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment.

  • Support housekeeping and maintenance of NDT equipment.

  • Participate in classroom, on-the-job, and practical training sessions to progress toward certification.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Education & Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Experience:

    • No prior NDT experience required; prior exposure to manufacturing, welding, or quality inspection is a plus.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
    • Basic math and computer skills.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

    Work Environment:

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Willingness to work in confined spaces, at heights, or in various weather conditions as required.
    • Ability to wear PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and respirators as needed.
