Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Microbiologist whose primary responsibility is to support laboratory operations by conducting the relevant microbiological testing.

 

This role is based in Jalan Boon Lay, Singapore. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological analyses on water and food samples (e.g., total plate count, coliforms, E. coli, pathogens) following SOPs and accredited methods.
  • Prepare media, reagents, and maintain culture stocks in accordance with quality requirements & ensure timely sample processing and accurate documentation of results in LIMS or other systems
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure reliability and compliance
  • Adhere to ISO/IEC 17025 standards, internal QA/QC protocols, and safety procedures, participate in internal and external audits, including proficiency testing schemes & maintain accurate records of test data, equipment calibration, and quality control checks
  • Lead or assist in developing and validating new test scopes, including :Pyrogen detection (e.g., LAL or equivalent methods), petrifilm-based microbial enumeration for food matrices
  • Draft and implement SOPs for newly validated methods, perform risk assessments and uncertainty measurements for new methods, troubleshoot analytical issues and recommend improvements in workflows
  • Train junior staff and provide technical guidance as required, keep abreast of new technologies and industry standards to enhance lab capabilities
  • Prepare technical reports, Certificates of Analysis (COA), and communicate findings to internal teams and clients when necessary
  • Collaborate with other departments on quality, safety, and operational matters.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or related discipline with relevant 3–5 years experience in a microbiology lab, preferably accredited under ISO/IEC 17025

  • Strong experience with water and food microbiological testing methods

  • Familiarity with pyrogen testing and Petrifilm applications (advantageous)

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight timelines
