To ensure that the Aerospace & Defence Business Unit has a fully compliant quality governance process in place and operates effectively across the organisation of the Business Unit at all levels, we are now looking for a new Quality Manager. 

 

The purpose of the job is to interpret and implement the requirements of International Quality Management Systems, Accreditation Providers, Industry and Customer-specific Quality Systems, and to translate these requirements into a common quality management system for Element. To negotiate with these bodies and customers as appropriate, maintain compliance, and support future demands.  To advise and support the Business Unit Leadership and Divisional Leadership team to deliver our strategic growth plan through fostering of first class quality culture is also a main fokus. The role provides strategic governance over the Quality Management System processes at divisional level covering locations in Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Czech Republic.

 

 The position sits within the quality function organisation to provide guidance and direction on standards, operational integrity, and an ongoing critical review of compliance across the Business Unit.

The position ensures that the quality management systems necessary for Element to meet its business goals are fully understood and implemented to common standards across all applicable sites of the scope of the position. The job holder has the responsibility to oversee all Quality Managers in the M&C Division.

 

This position requires regular travel to Element laboratories within the scope of the position.

 

The Quality Managers Key contacts will be: 

 

-Director Quality, Aerospace & Defence, EMEAA - To advise and inform on capability, developments and key issues.

- Leadership Teams of Business Unit and local level – Annual and Monthly management reviews to inform on status of the QMS and to inform on capability, developments, and key issues

 - All Business Unit Operations, Commercial, Procurement, Supply Chain, and all function areas – implementation of QMS at all levels, to mentor, and to ensure quality compliance

 - Accreditation, Certification and Notifying Bodies - Programme, Audit lead and point of contact. Timely and robust NCR close out governance. 

 - Customers – to understand their QA and special requirements and manage audits and approvals.

 - Suppliers and Hire Workers -  Perform QMS audits where required

 

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and implement the QA requirements of ISO 17025, ISO 9001 and clients and establish and maintain a documented Quality Management System to ensure compliance of business processes with such QMS standards, and ensure the business understands its responsibilities.
  • Develop and manage a team of 5 quality professionals within the division.
  • Support the close out of quality system related non-conformances; provide guidance for the close out of technical deviations and communicate common themes to other divisional leads.
  • Monitor and use of data analysis to identify quality trends in the development of local targets and strategies for the continuous improvement of the quality systems, internal auditors and process and to improve experience.
  • Support the maintenance and extension of accreditations and customer approvals as agreed with local management, as well as the Director Quality, Aerospace & Defence to service our customer base and retain our competitive position as a market leader in materials testing.
  • Support colleagues in the implementation of the Business Management System for local processes.
  • Support the cooperation across laboratories to drive best practices and strive for harmonization and alignment of local systems.
  • Preparation and delivery of weekly, monthly, and annual Management Reviews.
  • Governs the performance of internal, supplier, customer, and third-party audits. Liaise with outside inspection authorities and/or 3rd party and customer auditors, where required.
  • Establishes the required training needs for the organisation to meet the QMS requirements including Quality onboarding, internal auditor competence, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Maintain a good working relationship within the wider quality organisation and within the laboratories in the Business Unit.

Skills / Qualifications

Detailed and current knowledge of the required quality management systems, quality systems auditing and the requirements set out by customer, national and international specifications. This is a critical role that needs to operate to the highest level of impartiality, honesty, and integrity.

 

The job holder should be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and be experienced with the demands and implementation of the QMS with preferably relevant experience in QMS positions and IT literate.  Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute or equivalent is desirable.

 

The jobholder must be self-motivated, capable of working on their own, and as manager or part of a technical team. The latter requires the ability to both motivate and delegate responsibilities.

 

The ability to communicate effectively in all methods of communication at all levels within the business as well as with customers, suppliers, hire workers and outside inspection authorities is a prerequisite. It is essential that the jobholder has the ability to communicate with knowledgeable authority and experience on behalf of the business.

 

Knowledge of quality management tools and auditor experience is an essential requirement for the position.

 

International travel might be required to fulfill this role. Passport and full driving license are essential.
