Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Materials Test Technician (2nd shift) to join our growing team. In this role, you will conduct a wide range of mechanical testing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Provide technical assistance to customers and co-workers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement.This position will work closely with the department manager in facilitating the preparation of test specimens and testing in order to meet customer turn time and requests.

 

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical testing and specimen conditioning (Heat Treatment) in accordance with company goals, quality system, and test procedures/methods. Tensile test (room temperature and elevated), elevated stress rupture, bend, hardness.
• Prepare specimens by cutting on band and abrasive saws, machining, and polishing
• Use calibrated hand tools such as micrometer, caliper, compass, and ruler to take measurements and record them into the test records.
• Review Mechanical test results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency to specification requirements.
• Record and maintain maintenance history of the lab equipment.
• Communicate any issues (safety, product flow, equipment, etc.) to management and mechanical test team members.
• Maintain qualifications to local procedures.

Skills / Qualifications

Testing to ASTM and ISO standards
Experience with NADCAP/ISO accreditation

Mathematical Skills
Use of a calculator to multiply and divide numbers and apply rounding rules. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Conversant in both English and metric systems.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
