Overview

Element has an excellent opportunity for an experienced detail-oriented analytical Laboratory Analyst to join our Smoke & Toxicity testing team. The Laboratory Analyst will be responsible for conducting chemical analyses, ensuring the accuracy of data, and reporting of product testing.

 

They will support the development and quality control of products and ensure test programs are conducted in line with customer expectations. This role requires a strong foundation in chemistry, attention to detail, experience of operating in an ISO 17025 environment and the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Sample Analysis & Testing: Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses on client samples in a timely manner using various laboratory instruments and techniques (e.g., Dionex IC, FTIR, titration, etc.)
  • Data Recording & Reporting: Accurately document test results and observations, maintain detailed laboratory records, and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders 
  • Quality Control & Assurance:Perform routine quality control testing to ensure compliance with ISO 17025, company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
  • Instrument Calibration & Maintenance: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. Troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate repairs when necessary
  • Method Development & Validation: Assist in developing and validating analytical methods for new and existing products to improve laboratory efficiency and accuracy
  • Inventory & Purchasing: Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes for work/consumables, maintaining stock levels in the laboratory
  • Improvement: Develop and execute continuous improvement projects on technical aspects of department operations, including participation in the 5S scheme and ensure that high standards of housekeeping are maintained
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of chemicals, and ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and cross-functional teams, including technical and quality assurance, to support product development and troubleshooting

 

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in a chemistry laboratory setting, preferably in a manufacturing, environmental, or industrial environment
  • Experience in fire testing in the transport industry is a plus
  • Good written English and numeracy in order to write project reports
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to make informed decisions and confidence to stand by and justify these
  • Strong positive leadership
  • Well organised and methodical
  • Enjoys team working but can operate alone
  • Excellent attention to detail and ‘getting it right first time’ approach
