Warringtonfire are looking for technical experts to join our expanding team in High Wycombe.  One of our most pivotal positions within the division is our Technical Officer role.

Responsibilities

  • Managing destructive fire resistance testing projects, from enquiry through to report, for construction products including but not limited to; fire doors, partitions, walls, floors, glazing systems, service penetration seals, and other site specific construction details
  • Communicating with clients to ensure that testing requirements are fully understood and meet their end use application
  • Liaison with Sales, Technical, Certification and Technician teams to ensure testing projects are ran smoothly and to the required standards
  • Surveying test specimens to verify construction details against client supplied specifications
  • Conducting tests in accordance with the appropriate test standards and internal procedures
  • Operating the variety of test furnaces to expose test specimens to real world fire conditions, and evaluating their performance in resisting the spread of fire
  • Preparation of technical drawings using AutoCAD
  • Writing test reports with details of test methods, product performance, product specifications, technical drawings, test observations and test data
  • Preparing quotations for testing projects including key requirements and associated costs
  • Conducting duties with a strict degree of integrity, impartiality and confidentiality
  • Providing technical guidance where required or requested

 

Skills / Qualifications

Required

  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent in Maths and English to Grade C/4 or above,
  • Good written and verbal communication skills,
  • Proficient IT skills including MS Word and Excel
  • An organised and methodical approach to work in a fast paced environment
  • A professional, calm and confident disposition
  • Willingness to learn skills and techniques quickly, and to ask questions
  • Common sense, honesty, integrity, a good work ethic, self-discipline and attention to detail
  • Ability to take pride in all tasks carried out, with a view of making the world a safer place

Ideally possess at least one of the following:

  • Higher education qualifications in a STEM discipline or equivalent experience
  • Practical laboratory experience with knowledge of calibration and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of passive fire protection in the built environment, or other construction experience
  • Customer service skills, with an ability to establish a quick rapport with visitors and clients
  • Project management experience / qualification
  • Experience of writing technical / test reports or academic papers

 

Other desirable skills/traits include:

  • An appreciation of engineering and construction materials, with an interest in understanding how things are put together / work
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or other similar CAD software
  • An ability to understand technical subjects and to explain them to others
  • Good decision maker with practical problem-solving skills
  • Methodical and measured approach to problem solving
  • Other testing experience

Our site is in a rural location between Hughenden Valley and Naphill, which is most conveniently reached if you have your own transport
