Overview

Element is a leading provider in material testing, product qualification testing, and calibration. We deliver certainty to our clients. We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to drive growth within the Aerospace & Energy sectors, with a particular focus on key accounts in Chicago. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales initiatives, managing key accounts, while fostering strong relationships with key decision-makers. The ideal candidate will possess a technical background with sales experience and a passion for expanding business opportunities.

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities within the Aerospace & Energy sectors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders to drive sales and revenue growth.
  • Utilize technical expertise to consult with clients, understand their needs, and propose tailored testing and calibration solutions.
  • Lead sales efforts from prospecting to contract negotiation and closing, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Re-engage dormant accounts while growing business with existing clients by offering value-driven solutions.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to refine sales strategies and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Conduct persuasive sales presentations and technical discussions with clients to showcase our capabilities and services.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, including engineering and operations, to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate sales pipeline data and activity tracking within CRM systems.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and professional organizations to enhance market visibility.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, trade regulations, and industry standards.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Material Sciences or related engineering field or business
  • 10+ years of technical experience with sales responsibilities.
  • Engineering background in electrical, mechanical, or materials science disciplines strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in business development, sales strategy execution, and account management.
  • Experience in testing, metallurgy, or composites is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret testing procedures and requirements to effectively communicate solutions to clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Dynamics AX, CRM, Word, Excel).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, negotiation abilities, and business acumen.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight travel.
